Digital Extremes Debuts Major Rework to Soulframe’s Player Progression in 13th Closed Alpha Update

Preludes 13: Virtues update arrives free for PC, introducing new weapons, player face and hair customizations, a new mission type, a more brutal bear boss fight, and more

Digital Extremes recently held its first Devstream of the year for Soulframe, revealing that the latest Closed Alpha update, Preludes 13: Virtues, arrives for free soon. The development team introduced a full rework of player stat progression and unveiled new weapons, enhanced face and hair customization, a new mission type, The Organ, as well as a free-roaming Bromius fight variant for players to discover amidst the overworld, among other quality-of-life improvements.

“Preludes 13: Virtues marks our first major update of 2026 for Soulframe,” said Sarah Asselin, Senior Community Manager. “The Virtue rework, new movement and combat improvements, and the introduction of ‘The Organ’ all reflect our desire to take bolder creative risks this year. We’re building toward a more expressive, more immersive experience, and this update is an important step along that path.”

Notable changes arriving with the Preludes 13: Virtues update include:

Expanded build options with the boundless potential of the Virtue system rework:

  • The functionality of the Virtue attribute system has been completely restructured to allow for more tangible impact from all three player stats: Courage, Spirit, and Grace.

  • Witness the three Virtues evolve and grow alongside the Envoy intuitively with each level up, instead of manual point allocation.

  • Equip a Virtue Prism attuned to the desired Virtue(s) concentration and see the point allocation shift in real time.

  • Don armour with more purpose than ever before, with new Virtue attunement scaling tying specific gear to distinct play styles.

  • Effortlessly create iconic fantasy archetypes like ironclad melee fighters, glass cannon mages, or the sneakiest of assassins.

Fresh Envoy hair, face, and weapon customizations:

  • Meet with the rat witch Ancestor, Verminia, in the Nightfold to experiment with new customization options beyond armour dyes and designs.

  • Find new face shapes among 10 different options.

  • Restyle and recolour the locks of an Envoy’s hair with an expanded selection of nearly two dozen new styles.

  • Ward off threats with three new weapons now waiting to be forged: the starting dual swords, Clivers, the wrist casters, Basker’s Wrest, and the staff caster, Seathorn.

Seek out a new mission type, The Organ: Medis Gyon:

  • Put an end to Medis Gyon’s grand operation as he watches from a Collector’s ship overhead as a plague doctor of the stars.

  • Seek out Dendrit towers across Midrath where The Organs eat brachial trees from raging furnaces, polluting the air with sinister smoke in hopes of altering it for the Ode.

  • Loot nearby camps surrounding the tower to uncover the rooftop key and destroy the vents below to gain entry.

  • Force the coils protecting the arteries of The Organ open and destroy the polluter to bring fresh air into the lungs of Alca’s wildlife once again and pocket Ode materials.

Brave a more challenging Bromius Omen Beast boss fight, along with additional quality-of-life improvements:

  • Encounter a new Agari boss, the Vadagar Bear, after completing the Fable of the Waste Bear, who now stalks the overworld beneath moonlit skies in certain areas, promising enticing rewards.

  • Replay the Fable of the Waste Bear anytime now to relive the chapter of Bromius’ redemption.

  • Take on side quests — Tales — with ease thanks to new Boards sprouting upon existing World Trees, now allowing for multiple Tales to be accepted at once.

  • Combat audio has had a full overhaul to ensure weapon sounds are more consistent and even across each weapon type for both the player and enemies.
