Digital Extremes Invites Legendary Actor and Filmmaker Werner Herzog to Answer ‘What is Warframe?’ at The Game Awards
Academy AwardⓇ-nominated director helps explain ‘Warframe’ (kind of); plus new trailer for ‘Soulframe’ Founders featuring BAFTA Breakthrough 2024 actor Jennifer English
Digital Extremes debuted two new trailers at The Game Awards to celebrate recent major updates to Warframe and Soulframe, with star-studded guest appearances.
Featuring award-winning filmmaker and actor Werner Herzog (The Mandalorian, Ghost Elephants) as an enigmatic personification of The Indifference, Warframe’s live-action short hints at the many mysteries to be discovered and unraveled across the game’s expansive far future sci-fi narrative. Its latest chapter, The Old Peace, launched yesterday and is available for free now on all platforms.
Featuring Golden Joystick winner and 2024 BAFTA Breakthrough actor Jennifer English (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Baldur’s Gate III), Soulframe’s trailer debuts a sneak peek at what its Founders' paths have to offer intrigued players and what the future holds for Digital Extremes’ latest online action fantasy adventure, as it embraces themes of healing and redemption from corruption.
“The Game Awards is a special night, and it’s inspiring to see different industries come together to celebrate the craft of game making,” said Rebecca Ford, Warframe Creative Director. “That’s exactly why our partnership with Werner Herzog was so perfect for this trailer. He brought a totally fresh perspective to Warframe, embracing its strange beauty and human core. This collaboration allowed us to see our own world we created through different eyes, and we have never been more sure of Warframe’s future for 2026 and beyond. Thank you to everyone who helped us survive for more than 12 years. We look forward to continuing to be weird and doing things our own way to serve our communities across every medium we can.”
Ahead of The Game Awards, Digital Extremes hosted special guests and industry cohorts at The GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live for a celebration of The Old Peace launch, including: Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI), Nick Apostolides (Resident Evil 4), Jennifer English (Claire Obscur: Expedition 33), Sam Haft (Hazbin Hotel), Zach Aguilar (Demon Slayer), Ryan Colt Levy (Chainsaw Man), Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate III) and dozens of industry personalities. Together, they celebrated the launch of The Old Peace narrative chapter for Warframe.
