Hello everyone, Welcome to Ryuzaki (Techercizer)'s hardcore Dark Sector Challange! I've noticed that many people complete the game on Brutal and find themselves with nothing left to do, so I decided to create some special restrictions you can put on yourself to make this game test your skills in every sense of the word... all these are meant to be completed on Brutal, and If I make changes to a requirement I'll asterisk it.
Feel free to make suggestions, I'd love the chance to use input from everyone to create a more complete challenge!
First and only credit (for now) goes to Xbox.com for posting a story that gave me this idea...
Path I
Slice and Dice:
If you've grown weary of washing the blood of yourself after you've blown through a sea of enemies with your disturbingly overpowered weapons, try this path for a change of pace
Keep your starting gun:
That's right, no special pistol weapons, and while we're at it no buying any weapons at all. Feel free to upgrade your Tekma 9mm any way you want.
Got Glaive?:
Having only the basics in firepower, be prepared to spend the rest of the game slicing through enemies in gory brilliance, and try to limit the amount of time you fire your pistol per level.
[optional] No Guns For You!:
Depending on how you find this challenge, you may or may not want to set limits on picking up opponent's weapons. No guns at all can be a bit too harsh, but on the other hand having your shotgun short out behind enemy lines is no picnic either. Be prepared to pounce on enemy guns like a jackal on a carcass, or morosely curse your choices while taking massive amounts of fire, but then again, isn't that why you're following this guide?
Frak the Frags
Say goodbye to your little pals, taking enemies out from behind cover without frag grenades kicks the toughness up a notch, but feel free to sell them at the Black Market so you can save up for all those guns you're not gonna buy.
[optional] F.I.N.I.S.H.E.R.S.
they're there for a reason, so feel free to take advantage of those downed enemies, and make all those who reveal their back feel your wrath. Apply liberally for Howlers in place of Shotguns. If you really feel like a challenge, set a required amount of finishers per level.
It's called Skillz
Take care of those shield soldiers the old fashioned way, by outmaneuvering their behinds. Gain the higher ground or get behind their defenses and make them wish they'd huddled in a corner somewhere.
Path II
Welcome to Boomtown:
Cleaving your way through legions of bodies loosing it's charm? Super Magic Infection Powers getting dull? then try a slightly more high tech approach, put holes in them until they stop moving! outfit yourself with the top of the line in lethal hardware and prepare for some drawn out firefights that separate the men from the boys...
I See Infected People...:
Shifting is a fun way to change cover and remove limbs and heads of all kinds, but taking some fire while you charge will make you think twice about closing the distance. Remember kids, just say no to Shift. Sneaking past security cameras is fine though.
Fire Bad! Ice and Electricity not so great either...:
Loading your Glaive with Elements is a great way to take down enemies, and dispersing them is a guaranteed way to flush out foes, but saving those elements for puzzles is a great way to kick it up a notch.
Power Down Power Thows:
Spraying the walls with your enemies' blood becomes a lot more difficult when you need to add some bullets or a finisher, and a lot more satisfying. Save the yellow streak of death for locks.
Let Go of your Aftertouch:
Aftertouch is the Coup de Grace of Glaive combat, but cutting it out makes you focus that much more on weapons, and missing for the 4th time in a row is sure to dampen your god complex.
[optional] Finish your Finishers:
Snapping necks is a fun way to go through Howlers and the occasional rookie soldier, but leaving it up to your little friends adds a lot more difficulty to your zombie fights, until you get 4 Fire Power upgrades in your Protecta, that is...
[optional] Fight the Infection!:
If you really want to kick things up a whole new level of notches, limit or completely cease Glaive kills, as puzzles and locks are all you'll let that thing on your arm do, and when you run out of ammo things are going to get mighty heated. Note that combining it with Finish your Finishers will lead to almost unwinnable situations when you run out of ammo, leading you to truly test your skills and start learning what types of ammo your weapons use...
Path III
the God of Dark Sector
If you want your name to be added below in the Hall of Pwnage, you'll have to be the Kira of Dark Sector, the L of Lasria, and the Terminator of Technocytes. Beating the game with these restrictions will mean you have completely mastered this game in every way. Master it with all optionals and you'll be listed under Gods of Dark Sector. If you manage to complete this and choose to post your Gamertag, expect to be worshipped by your fellow players... or mobbed by those wishing to test themselves against you. Be prepared for some repeat restrictions as this path combines the most lethal of both paths...
*Guns? What Guns?:
That's right, no special pistol weapons, and while we're at it no buying any weapons at all. For true pwnage, no upgrades can be used, but mercifully Upgrade Slots and Clip Extenders are allowed. On top of that, you can only pick up 3 enemy weapons per Chapter (excluding RPGs for required sections, as well as Turrets and Chainguns).
*I Make My Own Powers...
Thats right folks, everything infection related but the most basic glaive throw is out the window, Aftertouching, Shifting, Shielding, Power Throwing, Stealing, and all Elements can't be used to be kill one single person (The limits are off for bosses) if you make a mistake, get ready to throw yourself into some bullets or reload a checkpoint.
How Do You Turn This Thing On?:
Even if you choose to take the path of pwnage you've got 25 glaive throws per round, including misses. getting tough enough for you yet?
[optional] Who needs an Infection anyway?:
Hope you're ready for this... your first requirement for Dark Sector God level is to complete each chapter by only throwing the Glaive 10 times, including misses. There is a silver lining though, all those elemental puzzles are freebies, just make sure not to hit anyone while the Glaive is charged...
*The Cherry on the Pain Filled Top:
That's right folks, 3 Finishers a chapter to use on Howlers, Exo Armor, and Shield Troopers. Anything else with a gun is fair game, but with all the restrictions on powers getting in range will be proof of your skillz on it's own. Boss Fights are of course exempt, but since no boss fights pit you against giant Howlers you're going to find this exception pretty useless... the next rule, on the other hand, is going to make all you God-Seekers want to stick with the easy route...
[optional] Giant Armored Death Machines just got a whole lot tougher:
You might not have known it's possible, but take out those three lights and Exo Armor soldiers can go down just fine if you put enough pain into them. You might have seen it coming, but be prepared to kill every Exo Soldier in the game without preforming a finisher if you want to truly prove your God-dom.
*[optional] Death Limits:
Plowing through Dark Sector one checkpoint at a time isn't too tough on any difficulty if you respawn enough times, but to prove your Godliness you'll have to restart the chapter every 4 times you die, excluding boss fights. Still thinking about going for the tougher path?
[Addendum, There is a glitch in Chapter 7 that causes you to reload a differant save if you restart from chapter, so it's a freebie.]
On an Alternate Note:
If all these rules are starting to get a little complicated for you, there is one alternate route to god-dom. Beating the game without firing a shot, throwing the Glaive, or using a power (outside of Chapter 1, Boss Fights, and puzzles) will do the trick.
Make the Hall of Pwnage and you'll be a master of the Finisher and know how to make every shot count.
The Human who's name is written in this noteboo- i mean...
The Gamer who's name is written in this list shall have completely mastered Dark Sector in every way, shape, and form. These gamers can beat Dark Sector with no powers or access to weapons, and if they choose to post their Gamertag with their accomplishment you should have enough warning to hide in a corner somewhere before they slice through your allies... maybe.
